THE NEW DELL SERVER SUPPORTS 96 PROCESSOR CORES
Computer maker Dell today introduced the most powerful in its line of server capable of the most heaped configuration to work with 96 processor cores. For the final configuration of servers that supply the mass market, this equipment is a rarity and, as a rule, it comes only under the order, as customers who may need a little less powerful machines.
According to Dell, the is the most powerful server in the history. Technically a server consists of two 4-processor nodes, each of which can be operated with 12-core AMD Opteron processors 6100. This new server is the solution to work in virtualized environments, as well as for scientific applications that require large amounts of computation.
Moreover, the configuration dedicated server provides all the external chassis with multiple GPUs, and in this case, the server can be used for rendering computer graphics.
“We’re seeing a general market trend: a growing demand among consumers for more efficient servers that consume less power as possible. Consumers are looking for different ways to reduce cost of ownership of servers,” – Director of research at Dell. more info
Dell works with suppliers of components to meet these requirements. It offers cost-effective Samsung memory chips and Advanced Micro Devices, as they have more cores than the Intel processors which offers up to eight cores per chip.
C6145 supports up to 1 TB of RAM, and is based on the design of the PowerEdge Rack S6105, which supports up to 48 processor cores. These machines are compatible at the level of slots, so users can use the same hardware stuffing.
External chassis for server C410X with a set of PCI-Express slot can connect to the server and to carry up to 32 GPUs. Server delivers the systems with Novell Suse, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows HPC Server 2008. The cost of the machine starts with the mark of 18,000 dollars.
